The Jal Youth Advisory Council was established in 2016 as a school/civic volunteer organization which exposes students to the workings of city government and participation in city events. For example: they attend city council meetings, plan charity events, community clean up events, salvation army bell ringing and any event where they can be of service to the community.

One of their latest projects involved painting house numbers on city curbs to assist first responders. They are also working on a presentation to alleviate traffic congestion in school zones.
