Lady Panthers fall short against Dora

By John Earp

Last Tuesday evening in the Panther Gym, the Lady Panthers Volleyball Team played against a tough Lady Coyotes team from Dora. The Lady Panthers struggled in the first half of the first game, trailing the Lady Coyotes by several points all the way. In the second game, the Lady Panthers pulled ahead 7-2 early on, at which point the Lady Coyotes’ coach called a time-out. The Lady Coyotes continued to make several mistakes, and the Lady Panthers pulled ahead 9-2. After leading for most of the game, the Lady Panthers allowed Dora to tie and then pull ahead 19-18. Natalie Nunez blocked a spike down into the floor on the Lady Coyotes, giving the Panthers back the ball as well as the lead, 20-19. Dora then was able to pull ahead 22-20 in a very hard-fought game. Nunez once again spiked the ball, narrowing Dora’s lead to one point, 22-21. Dora then hit the ball out of bounds, resulting in a 22-22 tie. Unfortunately, the Lady Panthers lost their 2nd game 25-22. The third game started out with fierce competition. The game was tied 6-6 within the first few minutes of play. However, the Lady Coyotes rallied while the Lady Panthers began to have trouble putting things together, with Dora pulling ahead 14-12. Natalie Nunez tied the game up 22-22 with a spike. The Lady Coyotes were able to come back and win, however, 25-23.

The Lady Panthers’ next game is scheduled for August 31st at Carlsbad.
