NINE LEA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES DEPUTIZED AS US MARSHAL TASK FORCE OFFICERS

January 28, 2021 – On January 27, 2021, Lea County Sheriff’s Deputies, Barrientes, Pando, Rider, Blakely, Holley, Sandoval, Evans, Gutierrez and Crowder were deputized this afternoon by District of New Mexico, US Marshal Sonya K. Chavez. The deputization was conducted telephonically with the assistance of US Deputy Marshal Richard Hoyle.

The Lea County Sheriff’s Office is honored to work in coordination with the US Marshal’s Office in assisting in high profile cases, apprehending dangerous fugitives, and preparing cases for federal prosecution. Funding for US Marshal Task Force initiatives is provided through grants from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) task forces.
